Hi John,

According to the modern railway time table, it is 234 km from DeAar to Kimberley. So Km 198 is either 36 km south of Kimberley or 36 km north of DeAar, depending on which way they are numbering the line. According to Google maps, Houtkraal is 36.5 km north of DeAar by highway, which puts your photo about where I thought it might be, where the highway joins the rail line! At the Kimberley end, it puts you about at Modderrivier, but it's a paved road up at that end.
