I was at Aberdeen proving Ground for much of 1998 for Army training as a new 2nd LT (and a ROTC cadet for a week the previous summer). I deeply regret not going to see the EBT, as I went to other operations more than once in that timeframe.
I'm now 100% sure why I didn't go, it was probably the distances involved and we weren't supposed to go more than 150 miles from the post on weekends (I was gone every single weekend while I was there as I hadn't met my now-wife at that point). But if I had, I could have caught this right before I left for another post:
I did see the 'cold and dead' version of the line after they quit running, way too late to see trains running there.
These days, I ride everything I can, knowing that you simply can't count on it running forever. I learned the lesson from not going to ride the EBT.
If they ever start running again, by God, I
will find a way to get out there to ride of chase it.
