You can bump in from the Antonito side up to Lava tank and there is a "track" to follow to Whiplash. Same from Big Horn. Easy track to Big Horn then bump over to Whiplash. Track is in the vicinity of the wye tail. 4 wheel drive is not really necessary, but I would suggest a vehicle with some ground clearance. Real wet weather could be a problem.
Watch out for rattlesnakes from Lava through Whiplash and especially at Big Horn. You might catch Russo under his rock.
