Even if those pictures were taken in black-and-white, they would illustrate the issue I hope you were alluding to. The current passenger cars do a wonderful job of hauling tourists and therefore keeping the railroad in business, but they are just plain ugly, graceless, and wrong. I was very disappointed when Mr. Harper pushed the roundhouse project, because I believe the biggest need of the railroad is more appropriate passenger cars. IIRC, DSNG has built some of their own cars, and I had been hoping they would share that knowledge with CATS, so that CATS could have heated cars with the appearance of cars from 1920 but built with modern light-weight materials, and riding on passenger trucks (yes, building a whole bunch of trucks would be a part of the project).
I will say, though, that the roundhouse project will be of real value if it gives the railroad adequate inside storage that they can protect new locomotive appliances (such as air pumps), which I also see as an important target for some time in the near future.
