Just wanted to point out what has already been pointed out at least once here. I have a book...of course packed away at the moment, having to do with the last years of the the Marshall Pass and Narrow Guage Circle. In it, 499 is brought out to pull an excursion in the late 40's and quite a comment is made aobut the olive green boiler jacket coming right out of the Salida Shops and how proud the crew was of it....it looked spiffy in the blak and white pic too. (Was it Clegg and Beebe.???)
I don't understand what all the fuss is about...I knew of Olive Green boiler jackets over 10 years ago and frankly, I have always wondered why it hasn't been tried again....

Oh, someone had some comments comparing the D&S to the C&TS.....For me, there has never been a comparison....If you want a very highly polished, well run operation that has had the advantage of having location and some capital in the past, that is Durango. Chama and Antonito have had to fight tooth and nail for everything that they have had to get over the past 30 years...now that the Friends have a hand in things, it seems that things are slowly improving. I applaud them.
