Now for a view from the other side of the lens....
A few years back a British railfan group headed by Mr David Rodgers chartered 3 or 4 days worth of freight trains. This group was on a marathon railfan deathmarch that also included D&S, Nevada Northern, Heber Creeper and a UP 844 trip. One of the charters they did involving us had them chase the train up to Cumbres and board there.
David had arranged rental cars for the group and remember looking down at the higway from MP 336 and seeing 25 brand new Chevy Luminas in every possible color roaring up the hill 2 and 3 abreast. It looked like the green flag had just dropped at Daytona. Remembering most of these folks were used to driving on the "wrong" side of the road made me glad I was safely riding in the cab of 489!
