When chasing 3751 on the day it ran from Belen to Amarillo it was a zoo.
I got a shot at Mountainair, and thus was buried back in the "pack" upon leaving. After some time, I at last got up front.
3751 was poking along at about 30 mph since it was running ahead of schedule, and they of course wanted the guests on-board the train to get their allotted time.
So, I was doing 60mph in a 55 zone, WAY ahead of the pack, when I come over this hill and there is a county mountie with his radar gun.
He pursues me, and pulls me over at the bottom of a small dip, with a hill in front and a hill in back.
Mr. Deputy asks me why I was in such a hurry (he should try driving I-465 in Indianapolis...also a 55mph zone!!!). He looked in the back of the rental car and saw all of this video equipment.
I expalined that I was shooting the steam engine that was coming through the area and he says something like "right, now I've heard everything".
So, he takes my license and goes back to his patrol truck to do the background check.
He is back there no more than two minutes when all of a sudden two things happen.
A steam engine does indeed pass on the right.
On the left, ZOOM! ZOOM! ZOOM! ZOOM! ZOOM!
Cars are coming over the hill behind us, in both lanes, double yellow line, and proceeding over the next blind hill in front of us in the same fashion.
Mr Policeman runs up to me, hands me my license, tells me to be careful, and gets in his truck and tries to start "hearding" the pack back into the right lane!
So, I was at the back of the pack again, but received no citation, and several miles up the road I at last was near the front of the line again, almost even with 3751.
On the right, by the tracks, I see the deputy taking a picture of 3751 with his Polaroid!
