On page 27 of, "to Santa Fe by Narrow Gauge: the D&RG's "Chili Line" this photo is placed. In the notes below the photo it says, "Popular motive power for passenger trains on the Chili Line for many decades were the D&RG's fleet tenwheelers. No. 174, shown above freshly shopped and posed on the roundhouse turntable, saw many years of service on the line.(State Historical Society of Colorado)
Now the question? Does that paint job on the tender and locomotive look fresh to you?, if so why don't the numbers and letters pop out at you. Was this a pre coat of paint? Or is this a type of paint that brightens up as it heats in the sun? What is your feedback on this photo?
