The Baldwin Mikes were generally considered to be more effective than the ALCO's (19"X20" cyl., 44" drivers) on the Sumpter Valley line. Although the ALCO's were heavier and had a higher theoritical tractive effort, the tonage ratings for all of the SV's mikes were equal. Dispite this the N0. 19 (ALCO) was the favorite of veteran engineer U. S. (Vet) Carpenter.

BTW Bret, you need to proof read your posts more carefully. The train at the west end of Whitney is eastbound.
