This past Labor day weekend we took a drive out to White Pine Y, and Whitney on the Sumpter Valley and took a few then and now shots. The B&W photo was probably taken in 1917. While this photo appears in a number of other collections, this one is from the Hayse Grigsby collection with photo editing by Garrie Tufford. The train is east bound and will be cutting in the lumber cars standing on the east leg of the wye. The tail track of the wye heads down into Crawford Crk. about a mile to the White Pine company town and sawmill of Baker White Pine Lbr. Co. The lead engine is #17. Notice the roof line of a bld. looking over the boiler of #17. This is the White Pine depot. The first color photo is taken close to the same spot, as the B&W, but perhaps a little to the photographers right. If you look closely you can see the stub of the telephone pole just this side of the big rocks. The second color shot is of the remains of the White Pine depot. I am standing on the east leg of the wye and the raised grade behind the depot debris is the mainline.
