In June 2002, earl stated that the "restored" Los Pinos water tank was not an authentic restoration:

The replacement tank at Lava allowed to deteriorate badly since it is non-functional.
The non-authentic balloon loop at Osier. A turntable used to exist there.
Even a new one big enough for K class engines would be more authentic and offer an opportunity for interpretive demonstrations.
Removal of rail from infrequently used sidings for rail replacement elsewhere, thus eliminating some operational possibilities. Earl spoke of this also; i.e. secondary trackage near the Chama wye.
Construction of the Chama enginehouse to non-D&RGW standards. When built, it could have at least been made to resemble an 1890-1910 era structure.
I know that in probably each case there were fiscally sound and/or logical reasons, but nevertheless each was a conscious step away from authenticity and preservation.
