The Sumpter Valley did own gondolas in the early years. Some or all of these were sold to a Navada railroad, I think the E&P. (Bret will straighten me out if I am wrong.) But to the best of my knowlege they never had any coal hoppers, even though there was a very poor coal mine across the river from the grade in Boulder Gorge. Other interesting rolling stock were a small string of four wheel, side dump ore cars. I believe these were used to haul iron ore from a short lived mine at Larch to the Sumpter Smelter. I don't know of any other mines that were accessed directly from the line, and at any rate the cars were unsuitable for use in regular trains. Gold and silver ore was normally concentrated at the mines, bagged and shipped to the Tacoma Smelter in box cars.
