Relax guys; Bill Richardson has been a steadfast supporter of the C&TS.
Carl Turner went to Richardson back when he was the Congressman for Northern NM, and Richardson got a $550,000 federal grant for the Commission to take title to 463 and have Kyle restore it at the Chama Shop and for Kyle to build two new coaches at the Antonito Shop.
Since Richardson became Governor of NM in 2003 the appropriations from NM for the railroad over the past five fiscal years have totaled $5,665,000, as compared to $3,461,000 from Colorado during the same period. Richardson is a true and long-standing friend of the railroad.
One way to view the new Commission's effort to seek $600,000 of "emergency" funding from Colorado is to see it in the context of the disparity in funding between the two states. As you may know, under the interstate compact agreement both states are supposed to contribute equal amounts. Let's give the new Commission our full support in its noteworthy efforts to close the gap.
And, as we've learned from past experience, best not to pay any attention to Bobby Jennings. For all we know DNC stands for Denver Nut Case.
