I opened Bobbyj's post. Here it is:
Good morning to all;
As I sit here at 12th and Pennsylvania high above Denver looking out at the Colorado Capital dome shining brightly in the crisp morning air, and at the mountains to the West drinking my last cup of coffee of the morning, I’m reminded that there are some people with more fantasies than the law allows.
I recently accompanied several Colorado legislative aides to trackside to view the so-called rehabilitation of the C&TSRR tracks--we, (myself and a former Roadmaster from the D&RGW) were singularly unimpressed with the job).
The Commission and the operator of the C&TS won’t be obtaining the money that they received this year again. And who-or what-came up with the idea of trying to move the funding from Education to Tourism? They will guarantee a major drop in funding for the C&TS.
As for the letter writing campaign to Colorado’s Governor--a waste of stamps. Won’t happen. $600,000 in “emergency funding” when there is zero emergencies? Come on! The “Friends” claim that the ridership on the railroad is up by 7% overall, with revenue up 13.5%--the Commission and the operator should have the extra money for any “emergencies”. The $180,000 that the C&TS will receive from Colorado next season should be sufficient.
With the Democratic Convention coming to Denver next August, much of the tourism dollars will be funneled to that venue.
O.K., I’ve said enough--I do know that you will be attacking me for telling the truth--but it is what it is. I did congratulate Roger Hogan for all the propaganda photos of the C&TS track work that he posted! (That is all it was).
I’m now retired---working for several DNC committees, helping with a Catholic charity here in Denver, etc. I’m of the mind that the State doesn’t need the C&TSRR.
Remember, I just opened it. Please don't shoot the messenger.
Chuck
