1. The C&TS is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
2. The boundary of this listing in Chama is MP 343.5 to 344.80 , 100’-0” from the north track center line and 200’-0” from the south side of the track center line, plus 25’-0” each side of the track centerline at the wye.
3. The Friends are proposing to build a 10,000 square foot Visitor’s/ Interpretive Center within the boundary of this historic site presumably to be located just North of the Log Bunk house on Terrace Ave.
4. The Friends are also proposing to build approx. 65,000 sq. feet of covered storage for rolling stock over the existing South Yard tracks also within the boundary of the historic site.
5. Any changes or alterations of the property such as being proposed must be be reviewed in a public hearing and approved by the New Mexico State Historic Preservation Officer, which has not been done to date.
So here are my questions:
A. Given the historic nature of the Chama yard, if alternatives exist outside of the historic yard boundaries why would any new development be proposed for this historically significant area?
B. What are/ were the site alternatives for both the Visitor’s Center and Covered Storage?
C. What was the objective basis for determining which alternative was chosen or proposed for these projects?
