Any covered shelter will not be in a location where it will detract from the vistors experience. That is the Friends "Prime Directive".
I don't know about you, but I am tired of painting and replacing wood on these wooden cars that live outside 365 days a year. Today's paints will not hold up for more than a couple years. Some cars, like the rider boxcars recently rebuilt need to have every single piece of work replaced. To me its sad we have to do that, but once the rot reaches a certain point, there is no sense painting the splinters. Even if the cars were under a covered shelter just during off season, it would reduce the deterioration significantly.
Yea, it would be nice to have the entire town of Chama be in the exact same state as it was in 1940 (or pick your date). Some concessions need to be made. Hopefully the commission will allow such a facility to be built where it won't affect your pictures.
