Me thinks maybe the states bought the RR to pump some, sort of, legitimate money into an economy decimated by the fed-guvaments approval of the D&RGW's totally legitimate business decision to rid itself of a non-productive branch. Duh! OK, given those givens, just what do we do with it? Do we treat the guvamint with the same disdain we gave the D&RGW? Is there actually a (RR) business here to defray the costs burdened by the taxpayers of CO & NM? Hey, these are questions that should be asked. And what is the payback to the taxpayers who support it? Gee, just another canned train ride. Not a canned train ride? Just herd me into a car and a seat, and watch an authentic steam engine weave from the right to the left, puffing billows of black smoke. Arrive to the middle of nowhere, get herded into a lunchroom, eat the lunch and get herded back into a ride back to the starting point. Because I don't want to think I wasted my money I'll say on the questionaire, "That was fun" because it'll take too much time to say I felt like a herded cow.
Gentlemen, I am a D&RGW railfan, make no mistake about that. And my opinions are jaded by that, as are most of us participating in this forum. But a spade needs to be called a spade, And when someone is collecting my money for services rendered they had better give me
mymoneys worth, or at least smile like they appreciate my contribution to their off-season unemployment fund.
