Antonito vs Chama Lodging

The last couple of times I have visited the C&TSRR I have stayed at the NG Motel in Antonito. The staff there is so friendly and helpful. They even took care of my little dog one time while I rode the train. I volunteered to pay an extra days room rent and leave her in the room, but the lady at the counter said no way, just leave her with me(It was a chihuahua and had it's own cage). You really can't beat that kind of small town friendlyness. And of course you can just walk over to the station and watch the days train come in and the hostler crew service the engine and do the switching. As for food, there are a couple of nice cafe's in the old town proper.

As for Chama it's always more expensive, but there is a great deal of variety with the cabins and lodges out 84 south and of course there is always the old time Hotel accross from the station. My biggest complaint about Chama is the hassle with pets and finding one that will allow them. I used to stay at the El Messon but they quit taking pets so I quit staying there. Food in Chama is hit and miss and you can miss big. lol. That steak house out 84 is the best. I forget the name.
