Now that you have gone through all of the above, which for the most part are correct, the easy method of determining frog size is; to the rear of the frog( away from the point) find a spot that is exactly an even inch across the gauge of the rails.(gauge side of the rail is the side the flange contacts) mark that spot then go to the next spot that is exactly an even inch across the gauge, mark the spot and measure between the two marks, this will give you the number of the frog.
Example: If you mark the first mark at exactly 5 inches and the next mark is exactly 6 inches, and the distance between marks is 7 inches, the frog is a number 7 frog. A&K materails Dan mentioned can supply info on the exact frog angles should you want to build one, they can also probilly supply you with the frog and points. Be prepared for sticker shock.
