The number of the turnout is the ratio between the divergence and the travel. Thus if the frog rails are 1 foot apart 4 feet from the frog point, it is a #4 frog (it's better to measure longer multiples of these distances to lessen measurement errors). Model switches are usually sharper than prototype switches because space is of less concern.
