If you put the frog in tangent track, then from the end of the frog rail(called the heels) measure 1.5' to develop a tangent centerline of the turnout side and intersect that with the centerline of your main tangent line (PI). From that point you can measure the distance from that interception to the frog rail and than use that same distance to place the end of your switch point rail. Another word, that intersection is the center of the curve rail portion of the switch. The length of your switchpoint rail will determine the location of your switch point.(PS)
If you design it right, you may be able to place the frog and switchpoint rails so they meet and match to a rail joint in the original track. But sometime the side track must aim a certain direction and the frog location is the establishing location of the turnout. Straight as a logging spur? Got it? Good luck. You dont't want to use a #4 that passengers run through. Find a bigger frog.
