forgot to mention... if you go through Alb to Chama (which is very nice driving) on the second day when you return from the train its around a 2- 2.5 hour drive from Chama to Durango via Pagosa Springs, or if you want a longer trip you can try to see Gato, but i have not tried that myself. I would also say that if you ride the D&S, TAKE THE SILVER VISTA. I found it to be one of the best parlor cars out there! I would also recommend (even due to rising gas prices) to do a round trip around on 160 to 184, and then 145 around to Ridgeway. This follows the RGS route and then you can return through Ouray and Silverton before reaching Durango on 550. This will follow the route of the Ouray Branch and the "Rainbow Route" Silverton Northern Railroad over the Million Dollar Highway.
