well for flying, if you can try to get free tickets from an airline, either fly to denver and transfer to a plane to durango, or (I tried this in August and worked very well) fly to Albuquerque and rent a car, go through santa fe and up through chama and then determine where you want to go. Phoenix also allows direct flights, but if you go by Albuquerque you can stop at Santa Fe and do their train ride, and then head up through Espanola to Antonito or Chama.
