The D&RGW and C&S exchanged narrow gauge cars as late as 1924. C&S coal cars were loaded with anthracite coal at Crested Butte and shipped to a smelter in Kokomo that late. After the third rail was removed from Salida to Leadville in 1925, the coal was transferred to standard gauge at Salida in the "barrel" moved to Leadville and retransferred to C&S ng coal cars. Very inefficeint, but the D&RGW wanted the dual gauge off their main line.
I have a photo showing C&S gons in the yards at Crested Butte along with some ex-Crystal River Ingoldsby dump cars. Lots of variety in those days.
The D&RGW and C&S often loaned each other stock cars as the fall stock rush happened at different times on the two lines. The D&RG was using C&S stock cars around Gunnison as late as WWI.
