Some people approach digital this way, but it has always been about the photographer and not the tools.
Years ago, a lady with her son asked Alfred Eiseinstadt (chief photographer for Life Magazine) what kind of camera he used. He responded that he used a variety of cameras, but a Leica was his favorite. The lady turned to the kid and said "We will get you a Leica and you can take photos just like him."
Ansel Adams took a few minutes or an hour at most to shoot most of his photos, but he spent hours and hours in the darkroom making his fabulous prints. Today, only a few people can take his negatives and make prints that even approach what he could do.
If Ansel Adams were alive today, he would be using PhotoShop, but getting better results than 99% of us.
