Re: Is Chama ready if a yard fire started?

What prompted my response was your message that stated: "I sincerely hope that the great silence on the subject of a fire in the cars in the Chama yard is because that greatest threat to the C&TS has been seriously considered, reviewed, and having contingent plans made to maintain control, etc"
My response was to your note on the great SILENCE you mentioned!!! Silence because the majority of folks here reading this can't do anything about it. If you want more response go to where someone might respond---The Railroad!!!
As for vandalism, we saw some on the C&TS three or four years ago as I recall. A bunch of guys "Tagged" some cars with spray cans, and some volunteers went over and cleaned it up.
I think one response to this years ago was to get a car storage and repair building for Chama, and to store the regular coaches there over the winter to protect them from vandals as well as the elements. Everything takes time. The building in Antonito is now a reality, so perhaps someday the one in Chama can be as well. The problem I was told is that the C&TS is always in "Emergency Mode" just trying to get the operation to run each year. We all want a bunch of neat things to happen, but realisically other things are always more immediate.
I also would hate to see something happen of this nature, and is why I suggest sending an outline to the Commission or the railroad folks in charge of operations. At least that way, it has been sent to the right people.
