I guess that first of all, should make it known that I am a former resident of Old Saybrook and a graduate of OS High School. I have not lived in CT for over 40 years(I live in WY) and have not been a visitor to OS since 1994. Many changes have happened to the town in that time.
I am also a RR fan and former history teacher with a soft spot in my heart for all things historic, especially RR equipment and the RR's themselves. I beleive that the area where the historic equipment was stored was(is) part of the old Connecticut River Valley RR(from Hartford to Old Saybrook). Part of the line is used presently by the Essex Railroad for their tourist train. If I remember correctly even when I lived in the area, RR cars were stored along that line, which at that time was only active as far as Essex.
I agree that the museum that owns the equipment in the yard should not be saddled with "supervising" community service for these felons. If you do the crime, you do the time.
