According to the Durango Old Weird Herald article it was the 1949 unit. I had the opportunity to go into the Tacoma plant a couple of times. The #3 unit had a big plate that said the Pelton Manufacturing Co, San Francisco, California, a division of Baldwin Locomotive Works ,1949. I wish I had that plate! The force of the explosion blew out some windows and damaged the older turbines. It will probably be replaced with a Toshiba turbine, which is standard in other hydroelectric plants here in the Southwest. The plant is a true relic. The Westinghouse transformers were huge and ancient I remember I was not allowed to take photos on account of the terrorist threat. Too bad, as that place should be a museum.
