Agree and disagree
The old fund was collected for the 483. A lot of people donated items, time and money for the 483. I also understand that the railroad probably needed the money to stay alive.
I do have a bad taste in my mouth about it because of the way it was handled not that it was done. If many people invested their time, money and items for the 483 and that was going to be changed, then everybody that did participate in any way at all should of been given the opportunity to express their opinion. 1 person had no right to go to the commission and tell them it was OK without giving everybody an opportunity to express their opinion. I had people that donated to the 483 fund ask me about who made the decision that it was OK to spend it on other things than just the 483. All I could say is I am sorry it was not my decision in fact the 1st I knew about it was when I read it on a discussion board. If I had been involved I would of made every attempt to contact as many people as possible to get their opinion before anything was changed.
This may cost some sales but so be it. When I talked to the president of the friends about them handling the separate fund for the 483 I asked that it be for the 483 and he said that is the way it would be handled. There are other accounts for the engines and if someone wants to help all the engines they can donate to one of the other funds. The agreement with the friends is the money will be used for the 483.
IMHO: The fund raiser belonged to everybody that participated not just 1 person.
