If anyone needs some verbage to put in their letters, here is what I wrote:
"Dear Mr. Cothen,
Subject: Docket Number: FRA-2005-21966
I am writing in support of a waiver of the 1472 service day/ 15 year requirement for removal of the tubes on the historic steam engine of the Eureka and Palisades RR referenced in the Docket Number above. This engine is in top mechanical condition and has had little use since being completely refurbished by a private individual. This steam engine is generously brought to Colorado once a year for a few days of exhibition running and has seen little use otherwise. This engine is an extraordinary example of a very early narrow gauge steam engine and as it is in operating condition it makes it all the more rare. I had planned a trip to Colorado this August for the purpose of seeing this historic steam engine operate however I have had to cancel my trip upon learning that the FRA has not yet granted a waiver to allow the engine to operate.
The tubes installed are clearly in good condition and to require their removal will result in an unjustified financial burden on the part of the private individual that owns the engine. I ask that you let common sense prevail and make an exception for an engine for which the rules being applied are clearly not appropriate given the engine's infrequent operation and exceptional maintenance.
Regards,
Steve Eriksen"
