Gordon Chappell, Regional Historian for the Nation Park Service and Cumbres historian, wrote "The Cumbres wye is historically inaccurate WITHOUT snowsheds. There was no
time in the history of the railroad it was without them, except briefly when they were being rebuilt early in the 20th Century without the covered turntable at the west end."
