While I don't think I was personally involved with loading #12 in Chama, I remember the project going in Chama. I recall talking to Stan Mathews who had a large list of parts that were missing from what was sold to him as a complete, but disassembled locomotive. A bunch of the parts were stored in a boxcar that had a key that only a couple of selected individuals had. I never saw what was in the car. I've said this part before, but one of the shop guys was really confused about #12's whaleback tank and asked me in all seriousness "how do you keep the coal from falling off of it?"
