This is even a bit dated, but I had the opportunity to ride the Guastatoya in January of 1977. She & 3 other cars were deadheaded from Guatemala City to the border at Tecun Uman, a distance of 177 miles if I remember right. There was even a steward along on the trip & he kindly gave me an emp. TT that was stored in a desk in the car. The car was in pretty decent shape then...they kept her clean, she rode decently. The RFE, Jose Pineda, was along as he'd oversee the operation of 2-8-2 204 on a charter back to GC. We had a long conversation about the articulateds & steam in general.
Hope that this car survives.
