I agree with what Greg Scholl says. I think the broader point is that if someone is willing to pay the big bucks to bring an unwanted/ indangered rr artifact or equipment to the US it has a high degree of probability of being preserved even if only stuffed and mounted.
Beyond this, I bet we could come up with numerous examples of locomotives and equipment being restored in this country many miles or many states away from the historical context they originally operated in. So I see importing this equipment as no different. Somebody in Guatemala 100 years from now may be very pleased indeed that a few Gringo's chose to preserve a bit of their rail heritage even if it is not in context of the rr they operated on.
