I wasnt saying that GTL equipment could never be considered that...but in the case of historical 'periods'...look at it this way:
President Madison's estate, montpellier, had many, many additions put onto over the years but subsequent owners such as the Duponts. But when it came to a restoration of the home..the most 'historical period' for the house was considered right after Madison's retirement. Thus they destroyed the additional wings added to bring the house back to this era. And rightfully so.
So, with that line of thinking..the most historical period for an engine like the #44 would be of course its time in Gautamala. Sure the GTL is a definate part of its service life and should be considered. But for another engine, such as RGS 42, which period do you consider to be most historical for the locomotive? when it was pulling converted reefers at Magic Mountain or when it was running on fall stock trains in the 1940s?
In the end though, this is all opinion and (fortuantly) open to interetation.
