Re: The #111 & What Would You Do?

Kerry Ann;
Like I said above, I disagree about just how “historic” the shays and the 40/44, but I can understand where you and Mr. Steele are coming from and I do see your point. I would not want to push this point since I don’t disagree with you that strongly. I guess we can agree to disagree on that point.
However, if that is true, then will the #111 IS historic to Colorado since it has been in the state just as long as the 40 and even longer then the shays. Also, does this not mean that the D&RGW gondolas and the #111 will be “historic to the Loop” in 30 years? In fact, how long will it take for something to become historic to any area or railway? 1 year? 10 years?
I find it odd that you would encourage people to fight against taking the #111 to the Loop. Since the #111 can pull a much larger train then the #9 or any of the diesels that the CHS are talking about. This means more happy tourist riding the train and coming into your place of business and spending money in your town. Why would you fight against that? It seems to me that if the “New Loop” has any chance of putting together trains anywhere near the size that the Asebys could, the #111 must be part of the equation.
Everyone;
Since many people seem to have a problem with what the CHS is trying to do, what would you do if you where in Mr. Bells seat? Please don’t say, “I would bring back the Asebys” because that is past now. I agree that the GTL Inc. was the best choice but it seems that this is no longer a choice. His crews of moved on to other jobs. You have 99 days to open the Loop. What would you do for 2005 and the 2006?
I know this is all hypothetical but I thought it might be better then just shamming every thing the CHS tries to do.
