Temperatures below zero [real Fahrenheit temperatures not 'wind chill'] are common throughout the winter in the Yukon. A few weeks of -25 to -35 is normal. The coldest overnight temperaturte so far this year has been -64.5. Our vehicles have engine block heaters and battery blankets which are plugged in so they start reliably. The very best 'outfit' for working in the cold is a one piece insulated coverall. When I need my hands free of gloves or mitts to work on stuff I wear latex surgical gloves. Half of the heat loss from skin is moisture evaporation and the latex gloves also trap a thin layer of air next to the skin which helps considerably. Try 'em the next time you have to work in the cold, you'll be surprised at how much they help.
