First, to those who don't like the use of monikers on this list --- tough, get over it.
Second, if any of the information I passed in my previous post is inaccurate, I ask that someone please correct me.
If Steve will re-read my previous post, he will find that I said nothing derogitory toward the Ashbys, or GLR. In fact, I have nothing but respect for them. They treated me very well when I worked for them back when the railroad was in it's infancy, and I consider them good friends to this day. They are personally responsible for making a first class tourist trap out of reclaimed terrain.
I also make no appologies for anything done by CHS. Yes, there were some far-seeing people back in the day, when they were aligning I-70 the first time, who made sure this terrain was available for us, but I disagree with what is going on now.
My post is actually an attempt to point out that there are a lot of things going on here. This is a publicly owned institution, administered by the elected and appointed officials of Colorado, Clear Creek County, Georgetown, and Silver Plume. Friends and Family in those areas have kept me abreast of some of the political wrangling that's gone on in those areas over the decades, so it isn't a surprise, to me, that the situation is what it is.
It is also an expression of my frustration with all the whining, hand-wringing, and name calling that is currently going on on this list, which I feel is not productive in any way.
I too hope the Ashbys and associates will take up another project, as I'm sure they'll do just as spectacular a job as before. And I'm disapointed that they weren't able to find a breakthrough in the negotiations with the state that would allow them to continue operating it.
At this point, I plan to watch what this new crew does, with a critical eye, and hope for the best.
