Don,
No, #40 & #44 are rated for 20,600#'s at MWP of 180 psi. The shays have more than this, with SHAY #12 rated at slightly over 25,830, and #14 also at 25,830.
The "NEW" #12 will have 5,000#'s less tractive force than #40, which probably cuts the consist in half, to around 3-5 cars.
Just a note to everyone who reads this...
Just because CHS/Railstar states that this, this, and this WILL HAPPEN does not, in any way, shape, or form mean that it actually will. How many things have they stated about equipment, public announcements, answers to questions, etc. that has NOT HAPPENED, and NOT NEARLY IN THE TIMEFRAME THAT THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD OCCUR?!?!
My point here is that this is one big game of watch and see, succeed or fail, sink or swim. There is no way of telling whether we will see steam on opening day of May 2005, or if C&S #9 will be ready by June 2005 (stated by CHS at the most recent meeting-per Jim Poston), or if there will be more than 2 cars for passengers to ride in, or if there will be any way for the passengers to even board the train.
NOTHING in this fiasco is for certain, save for one...
I will miss the family atmosphere of THE Georgetown Loop Railroad (GLRR Inc.).
