I think and from what I have read some people tent to agree that, whether or not people are drawn to steam is not the issue... it seems to me like the gradients , braking, and power requirements demand that a large steam locomotive like the ones the Ashbys owned be used, simply because diesels of suffecient size, power, and braking capability are just not available, unless they want to go buy a locomotive from the WP&YR , but they're probably using all of the modern diesels.
