As Ed reported in the August 18 "View from the Head End," the statistics on our passengers' home states as of August 6 were as follows:
a. Colorado 21%
b. New Mexico 20%
c. Texas 15%
d. California 8%
e. Oklahoma 4%
f. Kansas 4%
g. Illinois 2%
h. Other 23%
That's 59% from "out of state." We don't have reliable data from previous years, but our ad agency thinks it's actually a higher percentage of out of state riders than before. (We won't know for sure until season's end.) So far about 63% of our ad budget has gone to attract out-of-state riders, and by the time we finish the budget cycle (May 31, 2001) that number will probably exceed 70%.
The thing that surprised me the most was that we have more Colorado customers than New Mexico customers.
