Re: Albuquerque Journal 9-11-00

I'm wondering if maybe more tourists this year came from the local area. In my trips this summer, I don't recall seeing anywhere near the number of foreigners. With the exception of the lady with Texas plates who pulled out in front on me on hwy 17, I hardly remember any Texans in southern Colorado/northern New Mexico. I suspect the tourists Abq/Santa Fe was seeing was a higher percentage of those from the local area, and not people journeying from far-far away. With the threat of high gas prices, many of my friends stayed closer to home too.
Case in point, last weekend I went to Steamboat Springs. I saw very little non-Colorado plates the entire trip. But many people from Denver up for the weekend.
