In the first picture, Trainmaster Jack Rentfrow is on the left putting rocks in place under the track. Jack was a fine man, and a company man. He wasn't afraid to pitch and help doing work as shown in the picture. He remained with the Grande until the day the Silverton branch was sold to Charlie Bradshaw. He didn't like Bradshaw and decided to retire rather than work for the man. Jack was responsible in saving much of the narrow gauge equipment that remained on the Silverton branch. I worked with Jack on several projects, including saving the harp switch stand from Elk Park which went to the Silverton museum and is now in use at the SN engine house.
