I was chasing the trains out of Durango that day. Is it possible that the 487 went to MP 458 on the Silverton branch, rather than 358 near Monero. There was a slip out at MP 446.2 that would have blocked the way east. Here is a picture of the slip out.
The next picture is the dragline leaving Durango. I think the water tank was gone the next time I visited.
And the the last three show the activity at MP 450 on the Farmington branch.
Apparently it had been a very wet Monsoon season, resulting in the soft fill needing to be replaced, as well as the slip out. I have a picture of a long train of gons somewhere in the Animas Valley, which suggests they also had to dump a lot of slag where the track used to run through a marshy area (since been raised by either DRGW or the D&S).
The slip out at MP 442 delayed a short freight of Weidman lumber heading for Chama. It must have been called the day prior since it is not on the line up.
Thanks for posting all this stuff Jimmy, it is a gold mine of information.
