Even though I was around for the transition away from using Bennett that way, I don’t know which way the decisions were made that let become what it is now. I believe one of the factors was a change in Canadian rules about originating trains in Canada. I talked with a Transport Canada official last year and he said that it has severely impacted Canadian crews because they aren’t able to work as much and has greatly affected engineer and conductors incomes. By splitting the crews and/or originating the train in Skagway I am under the impression it alleviates us from some of that issue.
Aside from that, the track speed for much of the lake is 25, with a few miles at 20 and a couple speed restrictions. There’s a little bit of CWR near Carcross now, and a loop is supposed to be installed up there at some point to speed up the turning time and to avoid a shove through the busy village.
