Life expectancy is increaing faster than the "full" retirement age is going up. So net net, the "pool" of retired folks who can ride tourst trains and volunteer to repair them should be increasing. You have to work a bit longer, but once you do retire you can expect to have a longer "active" retirement. Which I think rsponds to the original question.
But of course averages don't tell the whole story. And perhaps the risk of running out of money before you run out of life is increasing. At age 83 I have found retirement to be an "interesting" adventure for which we are poorly prepared. If you are preparing for retirement and want to scare the bejesus out of yourself, read up on the cost of long term care once you become unable to care for yourself. Retirement is great and I am still thoroughly enjoying mine, but there are a lot of things can go wrong and in the great scheme of things the increase in the retirement age is probably one of the lesser risks, partly because it is upfront when you are best able to deal with it.
