To optimize my SSA benefits I waited to draw SSA benefits 'til 70. I was fortunate to be in good health, have a good pension, and no debts to where I was able to retire at 60. I can't say for sure now, but the SSA benefits increased about 8% per year if I deferred drawing the SSA benefits until 70 (You still need to get Medicare at 65 or get penalized. Who knows what changes are coming.
