If your shot in the root post of this thread really was taken in 1967 then those five tank cars are probably empties headed to Alamosa to be sold or scrapped . . .
I have wondered for a long time whether the five tank cars in this beautiful late-September (?), 1964 photo that I stole from the JéBêWèX and converted to an infra-reddish B&W were also empties:
