Ah yes, ye good olde 'olden days' -
But now you're implying that the SL&RG should purchase and maintain at least one narrow-gauge locomotive (presumably steam) to justify the re-installation of the third rail and the use of at least one idler car, as in this Tom Gildersleeve photo from 1960

Either that or give the C&TS trackage rights from Antonito to Alamosa so that one of their narrow-gauge engines could be used. But IIRC the C&TS is not exactly over-supplied with operable steam locomotives at present, and I'm not sure if either of their narrow-gauge diseasels is up to the task even though the loads would be hauled on a slight downgrade and the empties uphill.
My humble opinion is that we should be satisfied with the movies and photos of the three-rail lines that survive from the
Rio Grande days, and focus our energy and finances on preserving and restoring as much as possible of the equipment and facilities that remain.
