Unfortunately the revived SL&RG will need to make money to survive, Youse Guys -
. . . and adding the expense of a facility in Alamosa to transfer perlite (or whatever) from narrow-gauge to standard-gauge cars wouldn't add much to the bottom line. Plus it's been pointed out several times that – except for us foamers – most folks think the full-day trip from Chama to Antonito is already a bit too long, and adding an extra hour for the scenic Antonito-Alamosa ride is not likely to draw anywhere near enough riders to pay for the rail itself, much less the operating costs. OTOH, if the SL&RG adjusted its schedule to accommodate a diner on the once- or twice-a-week mixed train from Alamosa to Antonito perhaps they could draw a breakfast crowd southbound and a wine-&-tapas crowd northbound made up of C&TS patrons staying in Alamosa
